Find Hearing Screening Dates at my School or Preschool

All students in kindergarten through third grades receive annual hearing screenings.  Students new to the district (regardless of grade level) may also receive a hearing screening.  (Parents:  **Your child may receive a hearing screening at school unless you request it not be done.**  If you do not wish to have your child's hearing screened, please send a signed note to school.)

Students receiving Competent Private Instruction (CPI: home-schooled) may receive hearing screenings at their local school district during the annual screenings.  Parents should contact the school building that their child would attend.

Hearing screening is routinely done at preschool centers that are affiliated with public schools.  These include, but are not limited to, Headstarts, child-find, preschool handicapped classrooms, chapter-one classrooms, at-risk classrooms, Child Health Specialty Clinics, and AEA 13 sponsored preschool clinics.  All other licensed preschools will be offered hearing screening services for their students.  Students may be screened at Kindergarten Round-ups.

All babies born at hospitals within AEA 13 receive a hearing screening at the hospital before going home.  A follow-up screening, if needed, may be done at an AEA 13 office.

Students who do not pass the hearing screening or who have a known hearing loss or recent history of hearing loss will receive a hearing evaluation at least annually.

Hearing screenings/evaluations may be requested at any time by a parent, teacher, school nurse, doctor, or the student.

Hearing screenings are typically done in the school building.
Evaluations may be done at school or at one of the offices with a sound booth.
