Note: These Charts have been updated with 2001-2002 data. It should be noted that the 2001-2002 aggregate scores are based on the newer, 2000 norms. All other years are based on the 1992 norms. To further understand the implications of the new norms on these results, please refer to information provided by Iowa Testing Service or contact Ron Russell. The new norms are "softer" for some grade levels and "harder" for others.

Note: AEA 13 performance levels are presented in this document
in disaggregated format (eligibility status of free and reduced lunch)
to allow analysis of achievement trends in terms of socio-economic status.
Data received from Iowa Testing Program included this coded data. However,
there are still a significant number of students in AEA 13 for which the
coding was left blank on student answer sheets. Because of this "missing"
data, the socio-economic data should be interpreted with caution. So many
answer sheets were left blank during 1996-97 and 1997-1998 that performance
level data for these years was not included in the above charts. Because
of increasing accountability for the state requirement of disaggregation,
it is expected that the coding will become more consistent over the years.
Comparing AEA 13 Data to the State of Iowa and Nation
The most current data regarding Iowa averages on the ITBS/ITED are available online in through the Departement of Education Website. The report is called "The Annual Condition of Education Report - 2001." The document can be viewed by taking the previous link. It may be downloaded, but is a large document of more than 200 pages. Information in the report includes Iowa demographics, and other data pertinent to education, but there is a section that shows Iowa's performance on the ITBS/ITED as biennium average trends. Data is also available in terms of disaggregated subgroup averages for the state.
If you wish to compare AEA 13 or your local achievement levels to the nation, remember that the entire system of "low," "intermediate," and "high" is based on national percentile cut-offs (using the 40th and 90th percentile levels as cut-points). Therefore, the following chart represents the expected percentage of students falling into the three levels nationally. These numbers can be used as points of reference for math and reading at any grade level.
